Sleep is food for the brain in the sense that it's vital to its functioning. However, 50% of us suffer from insomnia and other sleeping disorders.
A well-deserved rest can rejuvenate one's mind and body
after long hours of work or school. Not getting enough sleep puts people at
risk for serious medical conditions like high blood pressure, bone and joint
disorders, back pain, and heart disease. In fact, adults who do not get the 7-8
hours of sleep recommended per night on a regular basis may even shorten their
life expectancy by two to three years.
Causes of Insomnia:
With access to the internet and sleeplessness, anyone can
get affected. Many teenagers are caught between long school days and late
nights on computers playing video games, as well as projects. They ignore
sleep. Women tend to experience insomnia more often than men because of
differences in genetics, stress, and reaction to stress.
The most common health condition which can cause poor sleep
is sleep apnea, which may be ignored or left undiagnosed if you snore.
Most of us need eight hours' worth of sleep every night to
feel our best. However, there are a number of reasons why some people aren’t
getting enough quality shut-eye over the course of an average day. Sometimes
it’s due to poor sleep habits, but oftentimes it can be due to factors that
prevent you from reaching your full potential in terms of resting and
recovering during the hours of nighttime rest.
Solution:
Skipping on sleep isn't always the best decision. Going to
sleep before midnight for just one night won't solve your sleeping problems for
sure. It will take months to recover from sleep apnea. Drinking caffeine and
energy drinks can disrupt your sleeping patterns so make darn sure you avoid
them whenever possible!
To treat your sleep problems, it is important to change your
sleeping habits. For example, if you have a blocked nose or snoring, ensure to
not watch television or play on your mobile phone before you go to bed as the
light from these screens can interrupt or delay the release of melatonin in
your brain and interfere with healthy sleep!
